Hello Hunt Parents and Guardians!
I am writing to give you some information about the 8th – 9th grade Transition. This is an exciting time and we will be sharing information as we get it.
8th grade students will be registering for 8th grade classes the week after February break. There are many classes that are required for freshmen so there is not a lot of choice – but there is some choice! PE/Health, English, Humanities, Earth Science, Math and Study Hall are all required courses. Students can choose from several electives. Math, Special Education and EL teachers will be making recommendations in PowerSchool. I have included the link to the 9th grade course selection worksheet that I will use with students.
Students will register online in PowerSchool. You will be able to see your child’s choices by logging into PowerSchool with them.
As we learn more about the transition to Downtown BHS, we will share it with you. In case you were unable to attend, here’s the video recording of last week’s 8th Grade Orientation event with Burlington High School.
You can reach me at 802-864-8469 X61005 or at kstergas@bsdvt.org if you have any questions.

HMS Equity Supports Letter
Date 1/6/21
Dear Parents and Families,
Hunt Middle School was identified by the Vermont Agency of Education as eligible for equity supports as stated in Vermont’s Every Student Succeeds Act plan. Schools and districts eligible for equity supports have a significant difference in student performance between at least one historically marginalized student group and their historically privileged peers. Our school was identified due to the gap in performance for the following student subgroups:
- Free and Reduced Lunch FRL
The district along with guidance from the VTAOE, will be providing us technical assistance as we develop our Continuous Improvement Plan to address improving the outcomes for all students, including the specific group(s). We will continue to address student needs as determined by the analysis of the data we collect. As part of that data, we look at parent survey results and other information we’ve collected from parents and the community. We thank you all for your feedback.
If you would like to be further involved in the development and ongoing implementation of our Continuous Improvement Plan, please contact us. Your support is instrumental in your child’s school success.
Thank you
Mattie Scheidt
