Science Expectations
Solstice Team
Ms. Jesdale
Homework:
In order to get full credit for a homework
assignment, students must:
Hand it in at the
beginning of class on the day it is due. If it is handed in on the same
day, but after class starts it loses 25%. Homework that is at least one
day late and handed in
before the end of the week is worth 50%.
Show that you have
worked to understand the material.
If you are confused or
struggling, still hand in your work, you might get full credit!
Do the work neatly.
Classwork:
In order to get full credit for classwork, students
must:
Follow all safety
rules, and follow directions carefully.
Come prepared with your
binder/folder, a pen or pencil, and paper.
Fully participate in
all written classwork.
Fully participate in
both small group and whole class discussions.
Hand in complete and
correct Focus Work answers every Friday.
Science Experiments, Labs, and
Projects:
Throughout the year, we
will do several science experiments. For many experiments, students will write a complete lab report.
For every project, students will get written
instructions with clear expectations.
If a lab report or project
is handed in late, 5% will be deducted for each day. For example, if the grade
for a project is 94% (A), and it is one day late, the grade becomes 89%
(B+). Students can lose a maximum of
50% of the points.
If you need an
extension, please talk with me BEFORE the due date. It is too late to ask for an extension on the due date!
Tests and Quizzes:
Students complete a study guide before class begins on the day before a test so they can bring questions into class.
Evidence that a student
has studied (in addition to completing the study guide) is due the day of the
test.
After a test has been handed back, students can make corrections on a separate piece of paper for partial credit. These corrections need to be handed in the day after the test is handed back. Both the original test and the corrections need to be handed in at this time.
Absences:
Students are responsible for finding out about and
making up homework according to the school policy.
Students are responsible
for making up classwork (focus work, vocabulary, getting information from
partners, etc.). The purple box will
have any worksheets on the shelves labeled Monday to Friday.
If you are absent for
more than a day or two, you should plan on staying after school to make up
work.
Supplies:
Binder or folder
Paper
Pen or pencil
